Handling venomous snakes is a highly dangerous concept from the beginning. This 2 day course is designed to help people who wish to learn how to catch and relocate reptiles. There are a number of single day courses out there, with only half the time spent with you that we do. Why take an extra day, simple really.....

At Snakehandler we train you to work in every State and Territory in Australia, with the most comprehensive list of handling techniques taught by any company. Safety is our number one priority, our aim is to produce highly effective and well trained personnel that can handle any give situation. Working with two highly experienced and professional snake catchers we provide some of the best training in Australia.

Snakehandler work in conjunction with our Auspicing body LifeAid to provide this course. Lifeaid is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 21037), providing the Statement of Attainment for all successful participants, a unique opportunity in Australia as we are the only Nationally Recognised Training course available......currently some States at Territories require a Statement of Attainment to demonstrate your competency.

It is important to note, that we are one of the very few companies running such courses to have Animal Ethics Committee Approvals and Scientific Research and Teaching Permits in all States that require it, this includes NSW, NT and QLD! (QLD AEC 2016/11/1021, QLD DPI Permit 515, NSW DPI Permit TRIM13/2162#2, NT Animal Welfare Authority permit #066)

22262VIC: Course in Reptile and Venomous Snake Control

The following units will be covered in this course:

  • Provide Information on Behaviour of Reptiles in Human Habitats
  • Conform to Legislative and WHS Requirements in Snake Catching
  • Provide Initial First Aid for Snake Bite 
  • Identify Snakes
  • Handle Reptiles

This is the only course in Reptile and Venomous Snake Control Australia that is Recognised and Accredited through the VRQA (Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority) that meets national quality training standards and can be found on the www.training.gov.au website. This course has created the Australian Standard in Training and Handling of Reptiles and as such successful completion provides the ONLY Qualification available in Venomous Snake Handling.

The course and trainers must adhere to 13 nationally recognised education and training standards and must be overseen by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

This is one of the few courses recognized by Wildlife Departments around Australia and the world to train people how to relocate Venomous snakes. In Queensland you are required to either been deemed competent or have two Statutory Declarations of EXPERIENCE, there is no other course in Australia that can issue a statement of attainment.

Course Cost: $450 per person (Victoria only other venues at price below)

This includes a comprehensive training manual and RTO accredited certificate.

This course has the same content as the Industry based course but it is conducted at our location, the course is also available to industries and government at their location, we are able to be more site specific for your needs (see Industry Courses further down this page).

Course fee includes booklet and certificate of competency (statement of attainment).

Course Dates:

General public courses are offered to people over 18, currently offered on the dates below. Should you wish to attend a course if you are able to arrange a group of 10 or more and we will travel to you (Travel costs apply).

  • Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th July (Moorabbin, VIC)
  • Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 4th September (Moorabbin, VIC)
  • Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th October (Darwin, NT, $650 per person)
  • Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th November (Moorabbin, VIC)
  • Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th December (Moorabbin, VIC)

These dates don't suit....not a problem...with the growing demand on our courses we are now offering midweek courses......we can also run private courses should you wish, with competitive prices for yourself or a small group of interested people.

Onsite Training

At Snakehandler we provide Industry courses for sites all around Australia (provided permits are obtained by us), the major difference is the location of the course, these courses can be run on site at any location.

This course has also been assessed by 2 Animal Ethics Committees and has been approved for every technique utilized and taught. Sean has a Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment & Training and a Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety, he is also an experienced teacher and an environmental scientist, meaning he can teach the complexities of the course in a way which is easy to follow and understand.
