Reptile and Venomous Snake Handling Course (Theory)
Flexible, Comprehensive Training for Australian Reptile Handlers
At Snakehandler, we were pioneers in delivering online training for our Nationally Recognised Reptile Handling Course, well before the widespread shift to remote learning. Our program allows you to complete the essential theory modules at your own pace and convenience, from any location. All we ask is that the online component is finished prior to attending your selected practical training day.
Our curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of wildlife departments across Australia. You'll gain a thorough understanding of native reptile biology and behaviour, learn how to use scientific identification keys, and develop a strong foundation in reptile-related health and safety. The course also covers Australian snake venom and effective snake bite first aid. You'll explore both hands-on and hands-off techniques for the safe capture and relocation of reptiles, weighing up the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.
Upon successful completion of the theory modules, you can print a certificate as proof of completion. This certificate can be submitted as part of your application for a permit to catch and release snakes through your relevant state or territory wildlife authority.
The online theory component typically takes between 8 and 10 hours to complete, depending on your internet speed and prior experience.
