Welcoming Stu to the Snakehandler Team
Posted by Sean McCarthy on
So Stu started this week, we decided that it would be nice if he could give a little bit of an insight into who he is:
I have had a keen interest in animals and the natural world from a very young age, sitting down with my dad watching nature documentaries as a kid, and borrowing every animal and nature book from the library I could find, always hungry for more knowledge.
I developed a particular interest in reptiles as a teenager and knew I wanted to work with them professionally.
After school I completed a Bachelor of Animal Science and upon graduating scored my first job in a zoological institution.
I subsequently completed the Cert III Captive Animals course and have since worked in a number of zoos and wildlife parks throughout NSW and VIC. I have been lucky to have been able to work with a broad range of species including reptiles, Aus natives, big cats, primates, exotic ungulates, exotic canids and more.
I also have a particular fondness for sharing my interests with like minded people and inspiring young minds to care about our animals that often get a bad reputation. This is something I will get to do a lot with the educational aspect of Snakehandler, travelling to schools around Victoria.
I look forward to bringing my experiences to Snakehandler and further developing my skill set under the guidance of Sean.
